About the island
Siargao is a teardrop-shaped island off the northeastern coast of Mindanao, famous for its consistent surf year-round. Often called the "Surfing Capital of the Philippines," it’s a hotspot for surfers of all levels, from newbies to pros.
Cloud 9 is the island's most famous surf spot, known globally for its thick, hollow waves and fast barreling rights over a reef.
But Siargao isn’t just about surfing. The island also offers stunning white sand beaches, beautiful islands, clear waters ideal for snorkeling and diving, as well as waterfalls, lagoons, and caves.
For the best experience, plan your trip during Siargao’s dry season from March to September, and check the weather forecast to make the most of your visit.
Ideal Times to Visit
Most Affordable Time to Visit
Visit during the off-peak months of June to August to take advantage of lower airfare and hotel prices, though be prepared for the possibility of severe weather.
Weather Overview
The dry season from March to September is great for visiting non-surf spots like Naked Island and Sugba Lagoon. Surfers should aim for July to November for the best waves, with the Siargao International Surfing Cup held every September.
Major Festivals and Events
The Siargao International Surfing Cup, held every September, is one of the island’s biggest events, drawing surfers from around the world.
How to Reach Siargao
Fly to Siargao from major airports in Manila, Clark, Mactan-Cebu, or Davao, or connect via Surigao Airport and take a ferry from Surigao Port.
Transportation Options
Get around with local transport like habal-habals (motorcycles) and tricycles, or rent a mini-multicab or private car for more convenience.
Busy Periods
The island gets especially crowded from March to April and June to August. Book your stay well in advance, and consider private excursions if traveling in a group for a more exclusive experience.
If you’re not into surfing, steer clear of the monsoon season from June to September. Surfers should avoid March to September when conditions are less optimal.
Times to Avoid Visiting
